MELBOURNE, Feb 4 AAP - A rookie policeman helped save the life of a teenager foundfloating semi-conscious in Melbourne's Yarra River after being injured during a brawl.

Constable Dylan Owen, 28, waded into the river and stayed with the 13-year-old boyfor about 45 minutes overnight until the Fire Brigade Rescue Unit could retrieve the strickenteen from the water.

The boy, weighing about 100kg (100kg), drifted in and out of consciousness severaltimes while suffering occasional fits, Const Owen, a policeman for just three months,later told reporters.
