Fed: Costello urges TriStar employees to return to work =2

Mr Costello said later the AMWU's action was undermining Mr Howard's visit to Japan.

"The prime minister is in Japan today and one of the groups that he'll be seeing is
the Mitsubishi car company," Mr Costello told reporters in Perth.

"His message to them is that we want investment in Australia and we want to provide
security of jobs for people in the car industry.

"He has been absolutely undermined by the activities of an irresponsible union at a
factory in Sydney who have put at risk up to 50,000 jobs."

Mr Costello said the AMWU had deliberately taken industrial action at the most sensitive
point in the supply chain so it could close car factories.
