Vic: One dead in fiery car-tanker collision

MELBOURNE, April 17 AAP - A motorist was killed when a car was engulfed in flames aftercolliding with a fuel tanker south-east of Melbourne last night.

The car was heading along Tynong North Road, Tynong when it collided with an east-boundtanker on the Princess Highway about 11pm (AEST), police said.

"The car has hit the side of the tanker and been dragged about 150 metres along theroad," Senior Constable Wayne Wilson said.

The tanker then caught fire and the blaze engulfed the car.

Snr-Const Wilson said the deceased was believed to be a man, but damage from the fireprevented definite identification.

The male tanker driver was not injured.

The death takes the state's road toll to 110, 12 fewer than this time last year.
