Vic: Contingency plan in place for leaking tunnel

Transport Minister PETER BATCHELOR says Victoria's roads authority is working to make
traffic flow as smoothly as possible while Melbourne's leaking Burnley Tunnel is closed.

Mr BATCHELOR says the government asked VicRoads to instigate contingency plans to assist
motorists travelling home this evening and back in to the city tomorrow.

He says they're asking motorists to assist, to take their time, and to be patient as
the trip will take longer.

Mr BATCHELOR also says motorists should take the advice of the variable signs and traffic
signs which are being put in place this afternoon.

The Burnley Tunnel has been closed indefinitely after a water leak this morning appeared
halfway along the right-hand side.

Mr BATCHELOR declined to speculate on the cause of the leak.

He says he's waiting for an engineers' report on the matter.
