WA:Fraud home sale hits WA again
Police say early indications in the case of another house in Perth being sold without
the knowledge of its owner, suggest the frauds may have been orchestrated from Nigeria.
A year after a man's Perth home was sold without his permission, West Australian Lands
Minister BRENDON GRYLLS says authorities are looking at claims it's happened again.
ROGER MILDENHALL'S 485 thousand dollar investment property was sold in June last year
while he was in Cape Town, after a real estate agent was conned by scammers posing as
the owner.
Police have confirmed they're investigating the alleged sale of a house some time between
February and April this year, again without the knowledge of the owner and while they
were overseas.

Qld: Former net porn king has heroin problem, court hears
By Jade Bilowol
BRISBANE, Feb 17 AAP - A fallen businessman who made millions out of internet pornography
has been injecting $4,500 worth of heroin daily, a Brisbane court has heard.
Greg Shiraz (Shiraz) Lasrado, 35, of Kenmore Hills in Brisbane's west, was released
on bail after a brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with
possession of a dangerous drug.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Jen Jacobsen told the court Lasrado was arrested yesterday
at his house with five grams of "rock heroin" during a drug operation that also netted
two other men.
Police surveillance found Lasrado had spent $60,000 on heroin since January 21, placing
the money into Brisbane man Bede Michael McMillan's bank account, Sgt Jacobsen alleged.
"He has been shooting $4,500 worth of heroin up his arm every day," Sgt Jacobsen said.
"He is an unacceptable risk to the community and himself due to his level of addiction."
She also alleged McMillan, 25, then used the money Lasrado put in his bank account
to purchase heroin from Justin Charles Schiro, 33, of Jimboomba, south-west of Brisbane.
McMillan and Schiro also faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court today after being arrested
yesterday in a car outside of Lasrado's house and at a unit in Oxley in Brisbane's south-west
respectively.
McMillan was charged with supplying and possession of a dangerous drug. Charges against
Schiro include supply, possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs.
Magistrate Jacqui Payne released Lasrado, McMillan and Schiro on bail.
The trio, who were not required to plea, are due to face court again on April 20.
Lasrado's lawyer Peter Nolan admitted his client "had a problem" with heroin but was
committed to rehabilitation and would seek help from his father who is a doctor.
In the 1990s Lasrado built up a web of more than 50 companies on and offshore, making
up to an estimated $10 million a year.
He owned luxury houses and drove a $500,000 black Lamborghini Diablo before his businesses
went into receivership.

poses a risk.
Mr SHAW says Great Whites are common in the area but are protected.

Qld: Community helps backpackers after yacht rescue
By Jessica Marszalek
BRISBANE, Feb 14 AAP - Backpackers plucked from a yacht which ran aground on the north
Queensland coast have been offered free food, accommodation and trips after accusing the
yacht operator of abandoning them.
Thirty-two frightened tourists and five crew from the yacht Romance were rescued by
helicopter after the vessel ran aground on rocks on Hook Island in the Whitsundays early
Tuesday morning.
Most were forced to leave their property on board the boat which had offered three-day
sailing and diving trips, meaning many now had no money, credit cards, phones or passports
and had lost cameras and clothes.
The backpackers later accused the charter yacht operator of abandoning them.
A spokesman for operator Discount Travel today declined to comment.
Backpacker Tim Jones, 25, from Britain, said the passengers were very grateful for
the help that had been offered, from free and discount accommodation to free meals, toiletries,
clothes and transport, after the nightmare experience.
"We were smacking the rocks, we didn't know if there was help coming, we didn't know
if the mayday calls had been received," Mr Jones said.
"It was hell really ... there was no-one on that boat who wasn't terrified and I think
it's hitting everyone now how lucky we are."
A police spokeswoman said officers today boarded the yacht in treacherous conditions
to recover what belongings they could, but some had been swept into the sea.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO Peter O'Reilly said the community would continue to look after
the backpackers, while the Whitsunday Charter Boat Industry Association, of which the
Romance is not a member, had offered them free sailing trips on their boats.
"The community is dismayed that these visitors have had to endure such an awful experience
that unfortunately didn't finish the moment they were rescued," Mr O'Reilly said.
"International backpackers are the vibrant heart of Airlie (Beach) and we'd like to
see this group receive the care and attention we'd want for our own children in similar
circumstances."
Queensland Transport's marine safety department is currently investigating the incident.

Snoop log.
Provided by 7DAYS.ae
They say you can't judge a book by its cover, and first impressions don't last. But can you tell who a person is by the contents of their bathroom cabinet? Can someone's iPod playlist contain the clues to what type of personality they are? Does a living room's decor send out signals about its inhabitants? According to Sam Gosling, a professor of psychology and author of a new book, 'Snoop: What your stuff says about you', there is a science to figuring out who a person is by critically observing their belongings and the spaces they inhabit. Most people, in a moment of honesty, will admit that they constantly do this; try to size up people by what kind of things they choose to surround themselves with from bookcases to waste baskets.
Having done extensive research on personality differences and how people form impressions of others in daily life, Gosling finds that our personalities seep out in everything that we do - it's a matter of being an expert 'snoopologist' at examining the traces we leave behind. And these observations he says, are more telling about people's personalities than face-to-face meetings or what friends say about them. Describing snoopology as "a special brand of voyeurism", Gosling posits that a snoopologist looks for three basic types of clues to personality in the personal spaces we live in like bedrooms, bathrooms and office desks, which, according to him, are "a unique pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving that is consistent over time." The first clues are grouped as 'identity claims' and consist of posters, photos, trinkets and mementos that make a symbolic statement that is meant to project an image of who we are. These deliberate statements could be religious paraphernalia decorating a home as a sign of someone wanting to outwardly project an image of piety; or a home country's flag to indicate a sense of unflappable patriotism. And these could be what people want others to think of them as opposed to what they're actually like.
The second set of clues is 'feeling regulators' which include music, books, DVDs, family effects and are responsible for helping people mange their emotions and thoughts.
These could range from a living plant that inspires a nurturing aspect in someone to playing music to help them focus. "Music consistently trumps books, clothing, food, memories and television shows in helping people get to know each other better," Gosling writes. All this explains why people consider their music collections a badge of honour and a source of pride. Like Nick Hornby's alter ego Rob Fleming says in the book 'High Fidelity', you can judge a potential mate by their record covers, and according to Gosling, this is a way that people try to figure out their musical compatibility as a litmus test for how well they will get along. And finally, the third type of clues known as 'behaviour residue' which are the physical traces that we leave behind as a result of everyday actions like the contents of our garbage bins, brands of food we eat and home products we use. Generally speaking, it is the 'mess' we leave in our trail as a result of how we live. All this may seem like common sense, but Gosling has made it into a scientific tool that people can use to better understand each other. He based much of his research on the 'Big Five' personality traits that include identifying people on their openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism across different domains.
These domains include private spaces like bedrooms to more public ones like offices as well as virtual ones. Gosling finds that the really good places to learn about people are often overlooked. "Web sites are extraordinarily good places to learn about people - perhaps the best of all places," he says, adding that Facebook profiles in particular are filled with all kinds of clues on who a person really is. But when all's been snooped and done, all this hypothesising and deciphering could easily be avoided by doing the one thing that is a foolproof way of getting to know a person - asking them questions rather than observing them, right? 'Snoop: What your stuff says about you' is available at Magrudy's for dhs113. For more information visit
